“We Are What We Remember”

Solo Show

CICA Museum

2022, May 4-8, Seoul

The idea here is that of recollection: the way in which memory is accessed and obscured, the fact that we try to suppress or recover events in parts. We manage to forget the violence and repression pervading our collective past and the pain that has lived within our community as we emerge to face future calamities. The cycle repeats so that over the years the memories left are partly blank, revealing only some of the surviving pain. In art these appear as a mix of images: some forcibly covered, even buried, to be lost and others willfully revealed as if excavated to protect. All this is because memory is at once too unjust to bear and too precious to discard.
